‘Tis the season to deck the halls and turn your home into a festive, merry place to be. While some people may prefer to keep their décor simple, many others like to go all out for the holidays. If you’re a major Christmas lover, you can make your décor feel like a permanent part of your home by coordinating your light switch plates and wall outlet covers with your Christmas decorations. How? Keep reading to find out!
Go Red or Green
Red and green are timeless, easily recognizable Christmas colors. A few turns of a screwdriver, and you can replace your boring white switch plates with festive colors instead. If you’re only using them for the holidays, you can opt for inexpensive plastic plates in these colors. If you want something more permanent and durable, or just something a bit higher-end, there are a couple of other options.
For example, did you know that copper can come in a deep, beautiful shade of red? Our wine red copper wall plates would be a perfect color for your holidays. Irish moss copper has lovely shades of evergreen that would perfectly complement your Christmas tree too. You could also opt for unfinished wood wall plates and paint them your preferred Christmas colors yourself.
Paint a Festive Pattern
Speaking of painting your own wall plates, this is a great option if you want something truly over the top and Christmassy. Unfinished wood or pro wrinkled steel plates allow for good paint adhesion, so you don’t have to worry about your paint job rubbing off any time soon. You can paint red-and-white candy can stripes, for example, or other Christmas-inspired pictures and patterns to make your light switch plates truly one of a kind.
Silver and Gold
As the classic Christmas song says, “Silver and gold mean so much more when I see silver and gold decorations on every Christmas tree.” If your Christmas décor leans strongly towards this color scheme, upgrading your switch plates is an easy way to tie the entire room together for the holidays! Polished brass has a bright golden hue that’s common in Christmas décor. If your gold decorations have a bit more of a subtle hue to them, brushed bronze might be a better match for your space.
Prefer to focus on silver? There are plenty of metal switch plates in all shades of silver. If you want something bright, shiny, and reflective, chrome plates make a good choice. If you want a slightly darker and less reflective finish, brushed nickel steel is perfect; it’s also neutral enough that it can work well as a year-round wall plate too!
While it might feel strange to change out home fixtures for the holidays, outlet covers and switch plates are fast and easy to remove and replace. It’s really no different than taking down your standard home décor to replace it with Christmas decorations! So, if you want to take your Christmas décor to the next level, try a new light switch wall plate with a more festive finish this year.
